3692494 - Unable to assign a Cost Center (created from a Profit Center) to multiple Company Codes in SAP S/4HANA Cloud Public Edition

Symptom

  • An issue occurs when attempting to assign a cost center, created based on a profit center, to multiple company codes.
  • The system does not allow the assignment of the cost center to multiple company codes.

Environment

 SAP S/4HANA Cloud Public Edition

Reproducing the Issue

  1. Access the "Manage Cost Center" application.
  2. Attempt to assign a cost center, created based on a profit center, to multiple company codes.
  3. Observe that the system does not allow the assignment.

Cause

In SAP, cost centers can only be assigned to one company code at a time. This design principle is essential for maintaining a clear organizational structure and ensuring the integrity of financial reporting. Even when multiple company codes are linked to the same controlling area, the system enforces this rule to prevent inconsistencies.

Resolution

As an alternative, individual cost centers can be created for each company code requiring the same cost structure. Logical grouping can be ensured by using consistent naming conventions. For example:

  • Cost Center A-1000 is used for Company Code 1000
  • Cost Center B-2000 is used for Company Code 2000
