FAQ
- How to backup a Datasphere's space?
A: Currently SAP Datasphere does not have a defined process for this request. There are some Influence requests already requesting this feature request:
- Datasphere Tenant - Copy and Backup/Restore
- Define a Backup Policy for SAP Datasphere
Some alternatives to transfer data among tenants are: - Data Marketplace
- OData API
- Open SQL Schema
- Connect Datasphere tenants via SAP HANA Connection
- Does SAP Datasphere have any backup and restore mechanism at tenant level? To later restore the system to a point in time.
A: SAP Datasphere Tenant backup and recovery uses the SAP HANA Cloud service resiliency layer in the case of a disaster caused by factors within SAP's control.
SAP Datasphere Tenant Backup is done every 15 minutes interval and the Recovery Point Objective (RPO) in terms of time is also 15 minutes. All backups are encrypted and kept internally as they are exclusively for SAP usage. See System Backup and Recovery.
- In case of accidental data deletion, what are the restore alternatives?
A: First of all, as stated in System Backup and Recovery:
"SAP is not responsible for recovery of customer data lost as a result of the customer’s actions, including accidental deletion of a space or data resulting from inattentiveness or a failure to follow instructions to safeguard their data.
SAP Datasphere has safeguards in place to guard against the accidental deletion of data, including pop-ups and windows to confirm the customer’s instructions to delete data. We encourage the customer to train their administrators accordingly and to ensure other good practices to prevent the accidental or inadvertent deletion of data."
If data is deleted by accident, SAP can not recover it. For example, in Local Tables, it needs to be reloaded/reinserted from source(s) again.
For Remote tables, a new snapshot needs to be loaded. - In case of accidental object (metadata) deletion, what are the restore alternatives?
A: See answer from question #2. If object (metadata) is deleted by accident, SAP can not recover it. A way to recover a deleted objects would be via Transports (Export/Import). Although this is only possible according to tenant's space lifecycle management, see Exporting Content for Sharing with Other Tenants.
Another option to export the object's metadata in to CSN files, see Exporting Objects to a CSN/JSON File.
