3694082 - Run statutory reports stuck in loading in SAP S/4HANA

Symptom

When executing the application Run Statutory Reports and selecting "New Run" for any report, the application gets stuck in loading indefinitely with an error log in transaction /n/IWFND/ERROR_LOG - SRF_REPORTING - "Period 001 is not valid in financial year variant""Image/data in this KBA is from SAP internal systems, sample data, or demo systems. Any resemblance to real data is purely coincidental."
