3694526 - Custom MDF Portlet are Not Updating or Workflow Errors, When Using Cross-Entity Rule with Workflow on Job Information Changes

• This issue occurs only when a workflow is configured along with a cross-entity rule to update the Custom MDF portlet based on Jobinformation changes.
• Error occurred when transitioning the workflow.
• Error message: "Unable to transition the workflow."
• Error message details: "Unhandled error while preparing or performing service layer call."
• Error message details: "Failed to process generic objects for EC service layer save."

Scenario 1:

1. Take action>change job and comp info >perform the field changes>Save .
2. No workflow configured for this action
3. Result : the custom mdf portlet is updated as per the rule configured in job information.

Scenario 2:

1. Take action>change job and comp info > perform field changes>Save.
2. Workflow triggered>Approve the workflow.
3. The custom portlet is not updated.

• As per engineering team, the workflow error will be thrown due to product limitation.
• As of the current system design, we can only support create new MDF object and cannot update existing one.

• Product Engineering is investigating a solution.
• Tracking of progress can be seen thru ECT-244859.
• Workaround for workflow errors:
  • Delete the existing record of MDF object from there re-submit the workflow.
