Symptom

  • After importing a new Data Model, a new backup version is created.
  • The Data Model in use was imported a while ago, and substantial changes have been made via the Business Configuration UI since then.
  • Will changes made from the Business Configuration UI on the Data Model currently in use be applied to the latest backup version file?
  • How can I create a new backup version of the existing Data Model?
  • What is the best way to have a backup of the latest Data Model file?

Resolution

A Data Model backup file is automatically created once the importing of the Data Model is completed.

The backup file refers to the version of the file you just imported, and it will not act as a live backup for the Data Model in use. This means that upcoming changes that update the Data Model structure or data will not be reflected in the backup file.

Although the Data Model file is covered by the SuccessFactors restore process, keeping the backup version up to date is an option for cases where you need to revert unforeseen changes in your Data Model. The time to create a new backup will vary based on your internal business strategy and needs.

Here is a sample of how to create a new Data Model backup file. As this action requires access to Provisioning (the backend), kindly reach out to an Implementation Partner.

The screenshot below from Import/Export Data Model shows that December 2022 was the last time the Data Model was imported. The Data Model in use may have about three years of changes that are not reflected in the last backup.

  1. In order to create a new backup version, select the radio button "Export file" and click "Submit." This will download the existing .xml Data Model in use.

  2. Click radio option "Import File" and select the Data Model file you just downloaded.

  3. The Data Model file name will be displayed next to the "Choose File" button. We recommend adding a comment to highlight changes or the reason why the new Data Model is being imported, then click "Submit."

  4. The message "Template(s) has(have) been uploaded and saved" will be displayed if the file was successfully imported, and the new version of the backup will be displayed in Backup Versions.

NOTE:

This action is applicable to all Import/Export type under Succession Management.
