3695479 - How to configure a logistics area to restrict stock picking for shipping while considering it for planning ?

Symptom

Configure a logistics area to ensure the system avoids picking goods from these areas for shipping while still considering them for planning. Using Intermediate Storage as Logistics use does not fulfill this requirement.

Reproducing the Issue

  1. Go to Outbound logistics Work center.
  2. Go to Task Control view.
  3. Search for relevant task id.
  4. Select source logistic area with logistic use as Intermediate Storage.
  5. Confirm the task, it gets confirmed.

Cause

  • The Intermediate Storage LOA, is primarily used for identification purpose in the warehouse. Since the stock in this LOA is considered for planning, system will pick stock from this LOA however system throws warning.
  • This warning message indicates that the proposed Logistics Area (LOA) is not recommended for shipping. However, since the stock in this LOA is considered for planning, the system will not give a hard stop but provides the flexibility to confirm and proceed further.
  • For this reason, the Logistics Area with Intermediate Storage usage is displayed in yellow in the Source Logistics Area value helper.

Resolution

  • If a logistic area (LOA) is considered for planning, the system cannot restrict stock from being picked from that area. As a result, the stock in this LOA will be used by the system either for supply to production, shipping, or other processes.
  • Currently there is no functionality available in Business ByDesign which considers LOA for only planning but not for shipping.
  • Register the requirement for this feature in the SAP Business ByDesign Customer Influence Forum, at   https://influence.sap.com/sap/ino/#/campaign/886.
