3696174 - Upgrade SFTP server host key in Datasphere

Symptom

In Datasphere a Generic SFTP type connection is setup and working well. Once the SFTP server updates its Host Key, the SFTP connection in Datasphere may fail if the new Host Key is not configured in advance.

For example, SAP SuccessFactors SFTP service has planned Host Key updates as introduced in KBA 3642405.

"Image/data in this KBA is from SAP internal systems, sample data, or demo systems. Any resemblance to real data is purely coincidental."

Environment

  • SAP Datasphere

  • SFTP Service

Cause

As an SFTP client, Datasphere will perform strict Host Key validation.

Resolution

DataSphere's SFTP connection now supports the inclusion of multiple host keys, enabling both existing and new keys to coexist seamlessly.

For example: If your SFTP service is based on SAP SuccessFactors DC22, please refer to the KBA 3642405 to download attachment DC22_SAASKey_2025.zip and then perform the following steps to add the new host key.

  1. Copy all the contents of the existing Host Key.
  2. Paste it into the memo.
  3. Paste the new host key downloaded from the attachment into the memo above on a new line.
  4. After copying all the content, paste it into Datasphere.

  5. After that, enter the credentials and validate the connection again.

If your SFTP service is NOT based on SAP SuccessFactors, please contact your SFTP vendors and request a secure and valid host key. Then, follow the steps outlined above to update your host key in Datasphere.

Note: Before upgrading your working SFTP connection, please create a new SFTP connection using the multiple host key and validate it. This steps is to avoid breaking working SFTP connection.
