3698418 - ST12 shows time is spent on DB - database or application related issue?

Symptom

You face performance issue in your system and create an ST12 trace while reproducing the issue, which shows the DB as top consumer, similar to:

ABAP trace:

ABAP | 9.760.089 = 5,9 %
Database | 156.093.730 = 94,1 %
System | 64.494 = 0,0 %
Total | 165.918.313 = 100,0 %
