3700515 - Workflow Approver Cannot Update – “Update” Button Missing in Pending Requests and Workflow Details

Symptom

  • The update button under Pending Requests or Workflow Details Page does not appear
  • Workflow " Update" Button Does not Appear under Pending Requests or Workflow Details Page
  • Approver cannot view Update button

  • SAP SuccessFactors Employee Central - Workflow

Reproducing the Issue

  1. Navigate to the workflow page in SAP SuccessFactors Employee Central.
  2. Select workflow request
  3. Observe : The update button under Pending Requests or Workflow Details Page does not appear

Cause

  • The workflow configuration  set to "No Edit" for the approver, which restricts in-flight editing capabilities.

    • Go to Manage Organization, Pay and Job Structures
    • select workflow
    • View 
    • Edit Transaction = No Edit
    • Note: The options include: No Edit: The approver cannot edit the transaction.

Resolution

  1. Navigate to "Manage Organization, Pay and Job Structures".
  2. Locate the workflow configuration:
  3. Check the "Edit Transaction" setting.
  4. Update the workflow configuration to enable "Edit without Route Change" or another appropriate setting that allows the update button to appear.
  5. Save

Example:

Note: When editing a transaction in a workflow, the "Edit transaction" field must be defined to determine if the approver can make changes.

 The options include:

  1. No Edit: The approver cannot edit the transaction.
  2. Edit with Route Change: The approver can edit the transaction, which will reject the previous workflow and restart the process.
  3. Edit without Route Change: The approver can edit the transaction, and the workflow will continue to the next approver without rejection.
  4. Edit Attachments Only: The approver can only edit attachments. Additionally, the workflow step approver can either stop the workflow if they are mandatory or skip the step if needed.
