3700961 - Accessibility Issue: Screen Reader Fails to Announce Fields and Their Values - SAP SuccessFactors Employee Central

Symptom

Screen readers announce portlet names but fail to read individual field labels or their values within the portlets.

Environment

SAP SuccessFactors Employee Central 

Reproducing the Issue

  1. Navigate to the employee profile;
  2. Open the Personal Data section;
  3. Verify that the screen reader announces the portlet names but does not read the individual field labels or their values within the portlets.

Cause

  • For a screen reader to announce the label-value pairs in the fields, the system follows a different logic where is necessary to switch to Virtual PC Cursor (VPC) mode and then use the up/down arrow keys to navigate and have each value announced individually.

Resolution

  • Activate Virtual PC Cursor (VPC) mode in the screen reader. For JAWS, press Insert + Z twice (you should hear "Virtual PC Cursor on").
  • Use the up/down arrow keys to navigate and have each field label and value announced individually.
  • If the "View All" functionality is used, ensure Virtual PC Cursor mode is activated to allow the screen reader to read all fields and values.
