3701595 - Understanding Differences Between Booked and Unbooked Member Totals in SAP Analytics Cloud (SAC)

Symptom

  • A discrepancy in totals is observed when comparing booked versus unbooked member selections in the planning model within SAP Analytics Cloud (SAC).
  • The issue occurs in both SAC Excel Add-in and SAC Web interface.
  • Unbooked members on Account and Account detail dimensions also show different totals in SAC Web interface.

Environment

  • SAP Analytics Cloud (Enterprise)

Reproducing the Issue

  1. Login to the Tenant.
  2. Open the Story containing Booked and Unbooked Member.
  3. Observe that SAC displays different totals when comparing booked versus unbooked member selections.

Cause

  • In SAP Analytics Cloud, unbooked members are dimension members for which no data has been entered yet, resulting in NULL values.
  • When unbooked members are shown without zero suppression, SAC includes these NULL members in aggregations and hierarchy roll-ups, leading to differences in totals compared to booked-only selections.
  • This is expected behavior.

Resolution

  1. Enable zero suppression (hide zero/null values) at the row/column level from the right-side builder panel within SAC.
  2. Verify that unbooked members are excluded, and the totals match the booked selection.
