  • sp_who show process in "latch sleep"
  • Optdiag shows many Forwarded rows and deleted rows

  • dbcc listoam show many OAM bit that needs to be set

The bit for alloc page -1708018944 in database 18 is clear. It should be set

  • Allocating space on a VLDB can lead to latch contention if most of the space is allocated at the end of the database
  • Logical I/O (LIO) is extremely elevate when latch contention is reported
