3703085 - Back-end error HTTP 500 during replication of reporting rules in the Define Reporting Rules app.

Symptom

  • A back-end error occurs while replicating reporting rules in the "Define Reporting Rules" app.
  • Error message displayed: "A back-end error has caused the application to terminate. Error message returned: HTTP: 500".

Environment

SAP S/4HANA Cloud Public Edition

Reproducing the Issue

  1. Navigate to the "Define Reporting Rules" app.
  2. Input the mandatory parameters.
  3. Click the "Replicate Reporting Rules" button.
  4. Wait for several minutes until the error message appears: "A back-end error has caused the application to terminate. Error message returned: HTTP: 500".

Cause

Reporting Rule Variant and Reporting Item Hierarchy could contain an excessive number of FS items being processed simultaneously, leading to performance issues and a back-end memory error.

Resolution

To resolve this issue, please follow the steps below:

  1. Reduce the data complexity by decreasing the number of FS items in the Reporting Rule Variant and Reporting Item Hierarchy.
  2. Apply additional restrictions to the reporting items to optimize the rule set.
  3. Confirm that the number of rules in the reporting variants has been significantly reduced.
  4. Test the replication process again to ensure the error does not reoccur.
