3703206 - High root filesystem utilization during DB backup - SAP ASE

Symptom

  • The root '/' filesystem reaches nearly 100% utilization during the backup process.
  • During the backup activity, the Java Portal URL starts responding with HTTP 500 Internal Server Error. Once the backup is completed, the portal automatically returns to normal and becomes accessible again.
  • Backup server log indicates errors such as "Error writing to archive device </path/to/backupfile>. Attempted to write 67584 bytes, 2600 bytes were written."
  • Additional error messages include "Pipe I/O returned 0 bytes" and "The 'write' call failed for database/archive device while working on stripe device '</path/to/backupfile>' with error number 5 (Input/output error)."
