3703367 - Project Task ID Sequence Issue When Copying From Existing Project

Symptom

Copy an existing project to create a new one, see the project task IDs in the new project do not start sequentially (e.g., 01, 02). Instead, they start with different numbers (e.g., 50, 51).

Environment

SAP Business ByDesign

Reproducing the Issue

  1. Go to the Project Management work center.
  2. Go to the Projects view.
  3. Click on "New Project".
  4. Enter the existing project Id.
  5. Click on "Finish".
  6. The task IDs start with non-sequential numbers (e.g., 50, 51).

Cause

The system assigns task IDs based on the prefix and sequence already used in the system. If other projects have tasks with the same prefix, the next available number in that sequence is used, resulting in non-sequential IDs for the new project.

Resolution

To ensure sequential task IDs for the new project:

  1. Go to Project Team work center.
  2. Use Advanced Filter and set the view to All.
  3. Filter by Project Task to check existing task IDs and prefixes.
  4. When creating the new project, assign a unique Project ID prefix that is not used by other projects.

This ensures the task IDs start from 01, 02 for the new project.
