  • Error showing: "This value is required" in the drop down selection for Object Name

Image/data in this KBA is from SAP internal systems, sample data, or demo systems. Any resemblance to real data is purely coincidental.

Environment

SAP SuccessFactors HCM Suite

Reproducing the Issue

  1. Go to "Configure Latest People Profile
  2. Under "Full Profile", select any category
  3. Click "Add Card"
  4. Select "Custom MDF Object" and click "Apply"
  5. In the "Object Name" field under Content Configuration, note that no custom MDF object is not available for selection.

Error showing: This value is required

Cause

Cause#1: There is no available custom MDF object remaining to be assigned to a new Category. Custom MDF objects can only be assigned to one card at a time and cannot be added to multiple cards or categories simultaneously.

Cause#2: If the Custom MDF Object has not yet been assigned to any card and the 'This value is required' still showing, this could indicate one of two things:

  • No valid "User" Data Type found. Please note that MDF System fields are not counted, even if they are configured with a "User" Data Type, as these are considered system fields and are excluded from the validation.
  • RBP Subject User Field is not configured correctly. Please ensure that a "User" Data Type is properly configured for this field.

Resolution

Solution#1: You can however, move the custom MDF object card in another Category if you need to.

If the card containing the custom MDF object is located in another category, move the card to the desired category:

  1. Go to Configure Latest People Profile.
  2. Under Full Profile, locate the category that currently contains the card with the custom MDF object.
  3. Find the card and click the three-dot icon (...).
  4. Select Move to Another Category.
  5. From the drop-down list, choose the target category.
  6. Save the changes.

Additional information on moving custom cards between categories, reordering categories, and reordering cards within a category is available in SAP Help Configuring Layout for Full Profile.

Solution#2: Ensure that a valid "User" Data Type exists in the Custom MDF Object, and that a "User" Data Type is properly configured in the RBP Subject User Field.
