3708517 - SAP GUI installation fails with 'Install Registration failed' in SapSetup Error Report

Symptom

  • After installation SAP GUI for Windows, 'Install Registration failed' error appears in the SapSetup Error Report.
  • The installation logs indicate unresolved module dependencies and file locking issues, preventing the correct registration of GUI controls.
  • In the NwSapSetup.log (C:\Program Files (x86)\SAP\SapSetup\LOGs), the following records appears:

NwSapFeiUt  1   Executing <C:\WINDOWS\system32\regsvr32.exe "C:\Program Files\SAP\FrontEnd\SAPGUI\<modulename>.ocx" /u /s>
NwSapFeiUt  1   Waiting for 31000 milli-seconds...
NwSapFeiUt  1   Process <C:\WINDOWS\system32\regsvr32.exe "C:\Program Files\SAP\FrontEnd\SAPGUI\<modulename>.ocx" /u /s> has finished.
NwSapFeiUt  1   Process <C:\WINDOWS\system32\regsvr32.exe "C:\Program Files\SAP\FrontEnd\SAPGUI\<modulename>.ocx" /u /s> has the return code 3
NwSapsAtlC  1W  COM server unregistration failed even with 'regsvr32.exe'!
