Symptom
- In SAP Analytics Cloud (SAC), you can generally modify an existing Import Data Connection, even if it is already used by multiple Import Jobs
- Existing Import Jobs continue to reference the same connection object (via connection ID), so changes to the connection are inherited by those jobs
- However, sometimes, the existing jobs may fail after making changes (for example host, port, credential, endpoint, etc.) to those import connections
Possible Errors:- Schema of data source has been changed
- Query view instantiation failed: name or password is incorrect.
Environment
- SAP Analytics Cloud, Enterprise Edition
- Import Data Connection
Reproducing the Issue
- Login to SAC tenant.
- Create one import data connection.
- Create one import job based on the connection to load data from source system.
- Make some change to the import connection (i.e., changing one import connection from DEV to PRD).
- Try to run the jobs created and executed successfully in step 3 again.
=> It fails.
Cause
- The underlying data structure and objects may be different between two source systems.
- For Import SQL Connection, you may change database name, which is written into job metadata. However, it is impossible in current product to update the new database name modified in connection dialog into metadata of existing jobs as per SAP KBA 3283906)
Resolution
- If the source system is changed (i.e., from DEV to PRD), please ensure that the underlying data structure and objects remain identical between two source systems.
- For example, for Import HANA Connection, the calculation view used to create the job must exist under same schema and package with same columns (dimension + measures) in the target system.
- SAP KBA 2927003 provides another example for import jobs from File server.
- If the the underlying data structure and objects are different between two source systems, you may need to create a new connection to the new system and create new jobs.
- SAP KBA 2919801 will help you to find the job metadata and then you can compare with the the underlying data structure and objects in the target system.
- If user or password is changed in data source system, you need to update the job metadata by following the steps described in SAP KBA 2885847.
- [Important] It is always recommended to create one separate connection to carry out some tests before changing the the connection on which a lot of jobs have been created.
