3715943 - Purchasing category not considered in purchasing spend analysis

Symptom

  • After assigning a purchasing category and completing the procurement process, the related transactions are not reflected in the purchasing spend analysis.
  • The purchasing category is not considered in the purchasing spend data, and no corresponding values are displayed in the analytical reports.

Environment

SAP S/4HANA Cloud Public Edition

Reproducing the Issue

  1. Create a purchasing category.
  2. Assign a supplier to the purchasing category.
  3. Create a purchase order for the assigned supplier.
  4. Complete the procurement process up to invoice verification.
  5. Open the app “Purchasing Spend” (ID: W0185).
  6. Check the spend values for the respective purchasing category.

Resolution

The purchasing category is not a manually maintainable field at the purchase order item level. Therefore, it is expected that this field is not available in transaction ME23N or in the Manage Purchase Orders app (F0842A).

As per standard system behavior:

  • Purchasing categories are maintained as master data.
  • They are associated with material groups.
  • The purchasing category for a purchase order item is derived indirectly based on the material group assigned to the item.

Note:

  • The purchasing category is not inherited from the supplier.
  • It cannot be manually entered or changed in the purchase order item.
  • Supplier-to-category assignments are used for classification and reporting purposes, not for purchase order item field determination.
