3725917 - Microsoft SQL Server connection is not visible as Target in Replication Flow in SAP Datasphere

Symptom

While implementing a data movement requirement in SAP Datasphere, you may encounter the following behavior:

Connections to both the SAP HANA Database for e.g. (source) and On-Premise Microsoft SQL Server (target) can be successfully created and validated in the Connections tab.

When creating a Replication Flow, the SAP HANA connection is available and selectable as the source.

Environment

  • SAP Datasphere (Replication Flow)
  • Microsoft SQL Server

Cause

Currently, SAP Datasphere Replication Flows support cloud or HANA-based target connections. On-Premise Microsoft SQL Server is not supported as a target for Replication Flows. While the connection can be created and validated in Datasphere, the Replication Flow mechanism does not expose it as a valid target.

Replication Flows only display connections that are supported as target systems, which currently include SAP Datasphere, SAP HANA (Cloud or on-premise), SAP HANA Data Lake Files, and certain cloud storage targets such as Amazon S3, Google Cloud Storage, Google BigQuery, and Microsoft Azure Data Lake Storage.

Resolution

To replicate data to an On-Premise MSSQL database, consider one of the following alternatives:

  • Use SAP Data Intelligence pipelines, which support on-premise relational targets.
  • Replicate data from HANA to a cloud-based staging area (e.g., HANA Cloud, Azure SQL, or Delta Lake) and then use standard ETL/ELT mechanisms to push data to the On-Premise SQL Server.

Monitor SAP Datasphere Road Map, as future updates may expand supported target systems for replication flows.
