Symptom

  • How to Trigger a Workflow When Editing Dependent Information 
  • A business rule was set up to always initiate a workflow when editing dependent information, but the workflow is not triggered.

Reproducing the Issue

  1. Edit dependent information using the History Button (Clock Icon).
  2. Observe that the workflow is not triggered.

Cause

The workflow triggering behavior differs between using the pencil (Edit) icon and the History UI. This behavior is intentional system design.

Step 1: Create a rule :Example Business Rules for Dependents in Employee Central

Example: Rule:TestEC_Dependent_Workflow

Step 2:Add the rule under BCUI - personRelationshipInfo.

Step 3:Test Rule:

Important Note: 

  • We recommend that you select Dependents Model as a base object.
  • Always confirm the workflow configuration to ensure it is set up to trigger on the correct event type.  
  • For dependent records, avoid using the pencil icon if workflow triggering is required.  

Workflow Triggering Behavior  

- Editing via Pencil Icon (Edit Button): Workflows are triggered when changes are made using the pencil icon.  

- Editing via History Button (Clock Icon): Changes made through the History button save successfully, but workflows are not triggered.
