3726632 - Error "The EAN & has an incorrect check digit" when adding a new EAN Number - SAP S/4HANA Cloud Public Edition

When entering an EAN/GTIN number you receive the error as below:

"The EAN & has an incorrect check digit
Column: Main GTIN
Diagnosis
By means of the check-digit algorithm for this EAN, the system has found that you have entered an incorrect check digit.

Procedure
Correct the check digit.

Message no. WE218 "

(where "&" is an EAN/GTIN number)

SAP S/4HANA Cloud Public Edition

1. Open the Manage Product Master Data (F1602) app.
2. In Create or Edit mode navigate to the Units of Measure section.
3. For the relevant Unit of Measure enter a Main GTIN and GTIN Category.
4. Error appears.

At this point in the process there are two GTIN digit checks, performed as below. Both of which trigger error WE218.

• The GTIN check indicator triggers the GS1 Check Digit Calculator (https://www.gs1.org/services/check-digit-calculator).
  This check ensures the GTIN number is formatted correctly as per International Standards.
• There is also a separate check ran to ensure the entered GTIN Number is contained in the number range defined for the respective EAN/GTIN Category as defined in configuration activity Define Number Ranges for EANs/UPCs (103680).

Both the GTIN check indicator and the required Number Range are maintained in configuration activity Define Attributes of EANs/UPCs (102782).

1. Open the Manage Your Solution app.
2. Choose Configure Your Solution.
3. Locate the Product configurations.
4. Navigate to Define Attributes of EANs/UPCs (102782) and Configure.
5. Select the relevant EAN/GTIN Category.
6. Check-digit algor. is the field for the GTIN check indicator.
7. Ext. number range is the relevant field for the number range.

The number ranges themselves are defined in configuration activity Define Number Ranges for EANs/UPCs (103680).

1. Open the Manage Your Solution app.
2. Choose Configure Your Solution.
3. Locate the Product configurations.
4. Navigate to Define Number Ranges for EANs/UPCs (103680) and Configure.
