3727136 - Product description is displayed instead of product name when selecting an alternative or variant item in the Quote

• When selecting an Alternative ItemType for a product in the Quote UI, the system displays the product description instead of the product name in the "Item type" column.
• Users may expect the product name to be displayed, but instead see the product description value.

SAP CPQ

1. Open any quote.
2. Add a product to the quote.
3. In the quote line item, under the ItemType column, select:
   • Base as 'Alternative for item'
4. Search and select another product as the alternative item.
5. Save the quote.
6. Observed Behavior: The ItemType column displays the product description.
7. Expected Behavior: Only the alternative product name should be displayed.

This behavior is currently functioning as designed.

The text displayed in the ItemType column follows the same display logic as the Item column:

• The first line shows the product part number.
• The second line shows the product description.
• If no product description is maintained, the product name is displayed instead.

As a result, when a product description exists, it is shown in the ItemType display instead of the product name.

• To display the product name instead of the description:
  • Remove or modify the product description maintained for the product, if appropriate for the business requirement.
• Alternatively, consider UI customization if different display behavior is required.
