3727165 - smart scheduling produces inefficient technician routes in field service management system

Symptom

Auto‑Scheduling in SAP Field Service Management (FSM) generates inefficient technician routes that do not minimize travel distance or travel time.
Instead of grouping tasks by geographic proximity, the scheduling results may include unnecessary travel, suboptimal task ordering, or inconsistent route sequences.

Additional routing issues may include:

  • Nearby tasks are assigned in a non‑optimal order
  • Auto‑Scheduling or re‑optimization is not improving geographic grouping
  • Technicians routed back and forth across the service area
  • Small changes (like fixing one activity) are causing major schedule variations
  • Default Auto‑Scheduling Policy not consistently producing location‑optimized results
