3728525 - Negative quantities observed in "Cum. ATP qty" in Monitor Product Availability app(F7884)

Symptom

When you try to get the available quantity for a material in Monitor Product Availability app(F7884), you find the number in "Cum. ATP qty" is negative.

Environment

SAP S/4HANA Cloud Public Edition

Cause

Possible Reasons for negative cumulated quantities:

1. Stock transfers in Materials Management

  • When stock is moved between plants or storage locations, the confirmed quantity in a sales order may no longer match the available stock at the original location. This can result in an over-confirmation situation and a negative cumulated ATP quantity.

2. Differences in scope of check

  • The availability check in SD can use a broader scope for sales documents than for deliveries. For example, purchase orders or planned orders may be considered in sales orders but not in deliveries. This can lead to situations where a sales order is confirmed, but the delivery cannot be created yet.

3. Replenishment lead time

  • A confirmation against replenishment lead time may appear valid in sales orders but fail during delivery
  • A confirmation against replenishment lead time created today - appears as over confirmation tomorrow (as the replenishment lead time has moved to the next day).

3. Receipt elements shifted in time

  • If planned orders, production orders, or purchase orders are rescheduled to a later date, earlier confirmations may remain unchanged. As a result, additional confirmations against the new date may cause the ATP quantity to become negative, leading to over-confirmation.

4. Changes in customizing of the scope of check

  • If the scope of check (e.g., in configuration activity 101099-Configure Scope of Availability Check) is modified after documents were already confirmed, confirmations may rely on receipt elements that are no longer considered. This mismatch can create a negative ATP quantity.

Resolution

In general, such over-confirmations can be resolved by

  • Running a new availability check manually in Change Sales Orders app
  • Automatically run ATP check for multiple sales order by executing a BOP run
  • Adding some stock to equalized the negative cumulated ATP quantity in Post Goods Movement app
