Symptom
- Negative amount reflecting in the Manage Project Billing app under the billed amount field.
- The negative billed amount is displayed for WBS element.

Reproducing the Issue
- Open the Manage Project Billing app.
- Search for the WBS element.
- Observe that the billed amount is displayed as a negative value.
Cause
The negative billed amount shown for WBS element in the Manage Project Billing app indicates that the total value of credit-related billing documents (such as credit memos or invoice cancellations) exceeds the value of invoices posted for this WBS element.
Resolution
In SAP S/4HANA Cloud, the Billed Amount represents the net result of all billing documents created for the billing element. If a billing document is cancelled or a credit memo is posted, the system records a negative value, which may result in a negative total billed amount.
To determine the exact reason in this case, we recommend reviewing the billing document history for the WBS element in the Manage Project Billing or Manage Billing Documents apps to identify whether:
- an invoice was cancelled, or
- a credit memo was posted against this project
