3729675 - Balance for Event-Based Product Cost Collector in the Analyze Production Costs - Event-Based App

Symptom

The sum value of the column Total Actual Costs in the Analyze Production Costs - Event-Based app for a selected order shows a balance.

Environment

SAP S/4HANA Cloud Public Edition

Cause

Balances observed in the Total Actual Costs column for event-based Product Cost Collectors in the Analyze Production Costs - Event-Based app are expected and do not indicate a problem.

This balance is due to variances that occur during the production process, such as differences between planned and actual materials and activities, or unplanned entries like scrap quantities. SAP Help documentation outlines how variances arise:

"During the production process, the actual materials and activities confirmed may differ from those specified in the BOM and routing, or an unplanned scrap quantity might be entered. This is how variances occur. It represents the difference between actual cost and target cost."

The formula for calculating total variance for a specific Product Cost Collector (PCC) order is as follows:
Total variance = Actual input cost - Goods receipt value - Total WIP amount

The balance in the Total Actual Costs column will correspond to the balance observed in the Total Cost Variance column when applicable.

Resolution

Release the Total Cost Variance column in the Analyze Production Costs - Event-Based app. Compare the balance in the Total Actual Costs column to the balance in the Total Cost Variance column. If the two balances are equal, no further action is required, as this behavior is normal for event-based Product Cost Collectors.
