3731566 - Cannot Remove Referenced Value from an Item Custom Field

You would like to remove an item custom field referenced value and you have ensured it is not in use. For some Reference IDs, when you click 'Remove' and 'Apply Changes', the function works correctly. However, for some other Reference IDs uploaded via Connector, the values are not getting removed.

1. Open Learning Administration > System Administration > Application Administration > Custom Fields > Item
2. Edit a Referenced Custom Field
3. Select a Reference ID to remove
4. Click 'Apply Changes'   
5. Observe that no changes were made

As per KBA 3637089, Connectors automatically create Reference IDs for referenced custom columns from the Custom Field Description value. With this method, it is possible to add special characters (e.g. line breaks) to these values, and these are automatically copied to the Reference IDs once uploaded. However, when you add a new Reference ID on the UI, these characters cannot be used by default. As a result, it is possible to upload these values via Connector, but the system is unable to remove them.

A code correction has been created to address this functionality. It is planned to be delivered with the upcoming 1H2026 major release.
