Symptom

What is the reason behind Pro Forma Invoices using the prefix TMP?

Environment

SAP S/4HANA Cloud Public Edition

Reproducing the Issue

  1. Open Display Sales Documents app VA03.
  2. Search for sales document ID ABC (Where ABC corresponds to the sales document ID).
  3. Click in Continue.
  4. Click in Display Document Flow.
  5. In the document flow, locate the related Pro Forma billing document.
  6. Observe that the billing document number starts with the TMP prefix.

Cause

  • The system temporarily assigns a billing document number with the TMP prefix before the final number is generated, allowing the document to be shown before saving.
  • SAP introduced a mechanism where a temporary prefix is required so the system can display the billing document before saving.

Resolution

This is the current system behavior.
