3735305 - Error: 247 happens when converting getdate() to smalldatetime under parallel plans - SAP ASE

Symptom

  • Queries using convert(smalldatetime, convert(date, dateadd(dd, -5, getdate()))) intermittently return the following error:
    Error: 247, Severity: 16, State: 1
    Arithmetic overflow during explicit conversion of DATETIME value 'Dec 27 1899 12:00AM' to a SMALLDATETIME field .
    Thread (spid=639) initiating parallel primary error processing.
  • The issue occurs only when the query in question run in parallel.
