Symptom
In Manage Service Orders, the same item displays inconsistent statuses depending on the mode—showing “Released” in display mode while appearing as “Completed” in edit mode. Additionally, the service order item continues to remain in a “Released” status instead of updating to “Completed,” which in turn prevents the “Release for Billing” option from being enabled.
Environment
SAP S/4HANA Cloud Public Edition
Reproducing the Issue
- Open the Manage Service Orders app.
- Search for and open the affected service order in display mode.
- Observe that the item status is shown as Released.
- Switch to Edit for the same service order.
- Observe that the item status is shown as Completed.
- In display mode, notice that the "Release for Billing" option is not available.
Cause
- If the flag is missed, or the confirmation is cancelled internally, the actual quantity remains at 0 and the item cannot be completed for billing.
- Manually setting the Service Order header to Complete will not override the item-level quantity requirement
- As a result, the service order item status remained "Released", and the "Release for Billing" option was disabled.
Resolution
Follow the below Work around only if the Service Order is not locked and still editable:
- Edit the affected Service Confirmation (if still editable).
- Change the item quantity to 0 → Save.
- Change the item quantity back to the correct value (e.g., 1 EA) → Save.
- Set Final Confirmation flag and complete the confirmation.
- System updates the actual quantity in the Service Order item and enables “Release for Billing”.
Limitations
- This workaround should be used only when a new Service Order is not feasible due to business deadlines.
- Not applicable if the Service Confirmation is locked from editing. In such cases, request backend correction from SAP Support.
