Understanding Taxation - Agniveer Corpus Fund

Agniveer Corpus Fund is a government-managed, interest-bearing fund created under the Agnipath Scheme in 2022, where both Agniveers and the government contribute equally, and the accumulated amount is paid as a lump sum (Seva Nidhi) after completion of service. The final amount paid to the Agniveer from this fund is called Seva Nidhi package. It is given after completion of 4 years of service. This fund is a key financial component of the Agnipath Scheme and a special savings fund created for soldiers (Agniveers) recruited under the Agnipath scheme, introduced by the Government of India.

  • The SevaNidhi package received comprises of:
    • Agniveer’s own contribution
    • Government matching contributions
    • Accrued Interest
  • Amount received from the Agniveer Corpus Fund (SevaNidhi) including the interest accrued is fully exempt from tax.
