3739208 - "Invalid GDPR for sensitive column......." error when adding a sensitive field in Canvas Advanced report

When attempting to add a sensitive field to a Canvas Advanced Report query, the following error occurs:

“Invalid GDPR configuration for sensitive column …”

This error prevents the report from being saved or executed successfully.

This issue can occur due to one of the following reasons:

1. Read Auditing metadata synchronization delay:

When a field is marked as sensitive in the source module, the related read auditing metadata must be synchronized with the Advanced Reporting. This synchronization process can take up to 24 hours, as documented in SAP Help Portal – Read Audit in Advanced Reports (Realms):

• After a field is marked as sensitive, allow up to 24 hours before validating access via Advanced Reporting.
• During this period, the field may still generate GDPR‑related errors when added to a report.

2. Read Auditing not supported in Canvas for the source schema
In other cases, read auditing is not supported in Canvas Advanced Reports for specific source modules or schemas (for example, Performance For 9 Box under User - Background Info). For these schemas: 

• The required GDPR/read auditing metadata is not available in Canvas.
• Adding sensitive fields will consistently result in the GDPR configuration error.
• There are no planned enhancements to extend read auditing support in Canvas Advanced Reports, as this functionality is no longer being enhanced.

SAP recommends using Story Reports as the primary reporting solution in SuccessFactors. Story Reports: 

• Natively support read auditing for sensitive fields
• Comply with GDPR requirements
• Are actively enhanced and supported by SAP

 Canvas Advanced Reports are no longer being enhanced to support additional GDPR or read auditing capabilities for sensitive fields.
