This KB article explains how to create custom Alert Messages with Document Generation

 SAP SuccessFactors Employee Central - Alerts

Document Generation enables you to create highly-customized alert messages tailored to your business needs.

Custom alert messages are supported for the following entities (Note: MDF object-based alerts are not supported):

• Employee Central entities (including Employment Information, Global Assignment, Job Information, Compensation, Recurring Pay Components, Non-Recurring Pay Components and Work Permit)

• MDF user-based objects (only those available in the Base Object drop-down are supported)

• Time Off

Steps:

1. Go to 'Admin Center' > 'Document Generation - Manage Document Template' and create a 'Document Generation Template' and 'Document Generation Group' under the 'Alert' category.
2. Go to 'Admin Center' > 'Document Generation - Manage Document Template Mapping', find the template, and map variables used in the template to relevant data fields.
3. Go to 'Admin Center' > 'Manage Data', find an 'Alert Message' object or create one, and select the Document Generation Group you created.
4. Save the alert message

Points to Note:

• Only two mapping types are supported as of the current product, the 'Direct' and 'Reference' types.
  • 'Past Direct' and 'Future Direct' types are not currently supported, as they do not have the additional special handling/criteria to handle the custom alert notification scenario.
• Under Reference, you can map a Variable to an event attribute (such as Event Reason or Effective Date) 
• When creating the Alert Message, you must provide either the Alert Header and Description text (OR) a Document Generation Group. If both are provided, you will be informed that the document generation group takes precedence and you can choose to proceed.

You can submit an enhancement request if there is a requirement that is not currently supported via Open Influence Opportunities - Customer Influence.
