3740501 - What does "No Authentication" mean in import data connection to s/4hana

Symptom

Concerns to "No Authentication" in Import Data Connection to SAP S/4HANA.

Environment

  • SAP Analytics Cloud

Reproducing the Issue

  1. In SAC homepage, go to Connections (Add Connection).
  2. Expand Acquire Data and select SAP S/4HANA.
  3. In the New SAP S/4HANA Connection dialog, select the authentication type: Basic Authentication, Client Certification (Cloud systems only), or No Authentication.

Cause

  • Selecting No Authentication relies on an authentication mechanism already used on the user's PC, such as client certificate/Kerberos.
  • Alternatively, it relies on hard-coded user name and password defined in the SAP S/4HANA system.

Resolution

  1. Select Basic Authentication if you need SAP Analytics Cloud to send a user name and password directly to SAP S/4HANA.
  2. Select No Authentication only if authentication is already handled outside of SAP Analytics Cloud, for example by client certificate/Kerberos on the user's PC or by default credentials configured in the SAP S/4HANA system.
