3740969 - Access restrictions on SAP Databricks' Google Cloud Storage layer

Symptom

  • Access to SAP-managed Google Cloud Storage (GCS) buckets in SAP Databricks is not possible - one is unable to to view, upload, or manage files in the storage (for example, uploading sample data for testing purposes is not possible)
  • Using volumes works within the SAP Databricks environment, but it does not give visibility or control over the actual storage layer.
  • When an external GCS bucket is used via external location, data can be read but data cannot be written back to that bucket. Instead, Delta tables are being stored in the SAP-managed GCS bucket, which end-users cannot access or manage.
