Symptom
- You have created an Archiving Object but it's not getting displayed in Manage Archiving Variants application
- The ILM Object is already assigned to an Audit Area for Retention Rules
- The ILM Object has status "Active" in "Assign ILM Object to Audit Area" Configuration Activity
Environment
SAP S/4HANA Cloud Public Edition
Reproducing the Issue
- Open the Manage Archiving Variants app.
- Search for or attempt to create a variant for archiving object FINCS_LOG.
- Observe that FINCS_LOG is not displayed in the list of archiving objects.
Cause
The object is assigned to ab audit area but does not have a live policy. Without an active (Live) policy, the SAP ILM framework does not "release" the object to the Manage Archiving Variants app because there are no defined rules to govern the data's lifecycle.
Resolution
Create and activate a retention policy for the ILM Object.
Go to the "ILM Policies" app and create your policy using the category "Retention Rules" and your object ID.
Then, after creating the policy you'll need to define the policy rules. Save the entries and the policy will now be in Draft status. Change the status from draft to live.
In many S/4HANA Cloud environments, once the policy is moved to Live, it may take a few moments for the OData cache to update. If you still doesn't see the object immediately, try to refresh the browser or sign out and back in.
