This article documents the expected S/4hana output control behaviour (a.k.a BRF+ output management) when clicking the Messages button in Purchase Contract transactions ME32K (Change) and ME33K (Display) across three common configurations: no release strategy, flexible workflow approval, and classic release strategy.
Scenario #1 — Contract Without Release Strategy and Without Flexible Workflow
Configuration:
- No release strategy assigned (EKKO-FRGRL = blank, EKKO-FRGSX = blank)
- No flexible workflow approval configured
Scenario #2 — Contract With Flexible Workflow and BRF+ Output
Configuration:
- Release-relevant contract with flexible workflow (EKKO-FRGRL = 'X', EKKO-FRGSX = blank)
- Approval workflow is active (EKKO-PROCSTAT = '03' – In Release)
Scenario 3 — Contract With Classic Release Strategy and BRF+ Output
Configuration:
- Release-relevant contract with a classic release strategy (EKKO-FRGRL = 'X', EKKO-FRGSX = 'RS')
- Contract not yet fully released (EKKO-PROCSTAT = '03' – In Release, or '04' – Partially Released)
