Symptom
When creating a new ODN (Official Document Number) number range interval for a new business place, the system throws an error message "Interval xx Subobject ABC to year xxxx overlaps with interval xx Subobject DFF to year xxxx"
Environment
- SAP S/4HANA Cloud Public Edition
Reproducing the Issue
- Create a new business place for India GST.
- Assign an ODN number range to the business place in the relevant configuration activity.
- Observe that the system raises an overlap error during save.
Cause
SAP number range overlap check is performed globally across all years and all business places (subobjects) for the same number range object.
No matter which year or which business place a number range interval belongs to, as long as there is any intersection in the numeric range, the system will trigger the overlapping error. Expired intervals from previous years are still included in this check.
In this specific case, there are identified existing expired intervals for number range xx under business place ABC/DEF:
Resolution
There are two solutions to resolve this issue:
Option 1: Adjust the starting value of the new interval
Simply adjust the starting value of the new interval xx to completely avoid the overlapping section:
For example:
Original planned interval: 9030000001 - 9039999999
Adjusted interval: 9031000001 - 9039999999
Option 2: Delete the expired overlapping intervals
If the fiscal years from old have been fully closed, and it is absolutely confirmed that no ODN documents will ever be created for these years again, so delete these expired overlapping intervals:
