Symptom

The error 'Invalid namespace for Official document numbering: Prefix Character' occurs when assigning a prefix to the 'Official Document Number' in the configuration activity 'Assign Number Ranges to Business Places for GST'.

Reproducing the Issue

  1. Go to Implementation Activities.
  2. Navigate to 'Assign number ranges to business places for GST'.
  3. Assign the prefix.
  4. Observe the error.

Resolution

Namespace restrictions are applied to key fields in the application. When defining prefixes for official document numbering, ensure that the values comply with SAP Best Practice namespace rules.

Avoid using the following reserved prefixes:

  • For character fields: S, Q, R, X, P, Y
  • For numeric fields: 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 0

Use only permitted values outside of these restricted namespaces.
