3744505 - Intermittent SQL error -10709 / rc=104 "Connection reset by peer" during SAP application to SAP HANA communication

Symptom

Intermittent connection failures occur between the SAP application server and SAP HANA.

Typical error examples:

  • SQL error -10709
  • rc=104: Connection reset by peer

Example SQL error text:

  • Connection failed (RTE:[89006] System call 'send' failed, rc=104:Connection reset by peer)
  • Connection down: [89006] System call 'recv' failed, rc=104:Connection reset by peer

The connection may initially be established and then be closed again shortly afterwards.

In some cases, no corresponding SAP HANA database error is visible in the SAP HANA trace files at the same timestamp.
