3744684 - Error "SAP 500 Internal Server Error" When Trying to Edit an Account

Symptom

When attempting to edit an account, "SAP 500 Internal Server Error" Dump occurs.

Environment

SAP Business ByDesign

Reproducing the Issue

  1. Go to Account Management Work Center
  2. Go to Accounts View
  3. Search and select the affected Account xyz (xyz means the Account ID)
  4. Select Edit -> General 
    "500 SAP Internal Server Error" Dump Occurs

Cause

The dump occurs due to the Organizational Unit that is assigned as a Company ID to the Account xyz is not marked as a Company.

Resolution

To resolve the issue, ensure that all Organizational Units assigned to the account xyz are defined as a Company.

Follow the below steps to resolve the issue:

  1. Update the Organizational Unit assigned to the Account xyz and mark it as a Company, by following the below steps
    1. Go to Organizational Management Work Center
    2. Go to Org Structures View
    3. Select Edit
    4. Select the Organizational unit assigned to the Company xyz
    5. Navigate to Definitions tab
    6. Mark it as company under Legal Definitions
    7. Activate the changes by selecting Activate -> Activate Selected and Dependent Org Units

  2. After activating the change, the dump no longer occurs when trying to edit the Account xyz
  3. Additionally, if not required, consider removing the Organizational Unit assigned as a Company ID to the Account xyz to prevent similar issues in the future.
