This article explains how Maximum Days of Supply (MaxDoS) in SAP Integrated Business Planning (IBP) Supply Optimizer for order-based and timeseries-based planning in all planning areas can be used to model shelf life requirements, and how this approach compares to SAP APO SNP Optimizer shelf life planning.

While SAP IBP Supply Optimizer does not implement a hard product expiration logic (that is, expired stock is not automatically removed from available inventory), MaxDoS provides an effective and supported way to prevent over‑aging of inventory and to align planning results with shelf‑life constraints.
