3746516 - Difference Between Condition Types MWVS/MWAS in ECC and MWVR/MWAR in S/4HANA Cloud for Japan TAXJP

Symptom

After moving from SAP ECC to SAP S/4HANA Cloud Public Edition, the condition types assigned to tax codes differ. For example, in ECC input tax uses MWVS and output tax uses MWAS, while in S/4HANA Cloud input tax uses MWVR and output tax uses MWAR. Customers expect the same condition types as in ECC and want to understand the difference and impact.

Environment

SAP S/4HANA Cloud Public Edition.

Cause

This is standard system behavior. In S/4HANA Cloud Public Edition, tax procedures such as TAXJP are predefined and not configurable. The assigned condition types differ from ECC as part of a design change for localization and simplification. The newer condition types include built-in rounding logic required for local compliance.

Resolution

This behavior is expected and cannot be changed. In S/4HANA Cloud Public Edition, the condition types for TAXJP are hard-coded and cannot be replaced with ECC condition types.

In S/4HANA Cloud, MWAR is used for output tax with rounding down, MWVR is used for input tax with rounding applied, and MWVY is used for non-deductible input tax. In ECC, MWAS and MWVS are used as general tax condition types without explicit rounding behavior.

There is no impact to standard business processes as long as tax is calculated correctly. The difference is mainly relevant when comparing configuration between ECC and S/4HANA Cloud or when custom logic references specific condition types.
