3747681 - SAC - Limitation while activating the Validation rule

When creating a validation rule in SAP Analytics Cloud (SAC) using more than one dimension, the rule is automatically saved in a deactivated state with the message indicating it exceeds the 1 million combination limit.

This occurs when large member selections or hierarchies generate too many combinations.

SAP ANALYTICS CLOUD

1. Log in to SAP Analytics Cloud.
2. Navigate to the Model
3. Go to Validation Rules.
4. Create a new validation rule with Rule Created With: Dimension Members.
5. Add Dimensions
6. Select multiple account members (including hierarchy‑based selections).
7. Save the validation rule.
8. Observe that the rule is automatically saved as Deactivated with the warning "This validation rule is saved in a deactivated state because it exceeds the limit of 1 million combinations."

The issue is caused by the current system limitation in SAC , where validation rules are restricted to a maximum of 1 million generated combinations. 

This limit cannot be bypassed at present. Although the development team is aware of this limitation and there are plans to gradually increase it, the restriction remains in place for now.

When users make member-level updates to a model, such as using "member on the fly" to create several members, it can lead to the number of member combinations exceeding 1 million for an activated rule. In such cases, the rule remains activated, and the member combinations that took effect before the model updates continue to apply. The rule now has the following traits:

• Its member combinations that take effect are out of sync due to model updates.

• Its member combinations shown in the rule table reflect the latest model updates, but their number exceeds the limit of 1 million.
