Symptom
Inbound delivery schedules (e.g. DELFOR / SOAP messages) for Sales Scheduling Agreements fail during processing with the error:
“The current cumulative delivered quantity is smaller than the cumulative received quantity” (V4015 / V4242)
The message fails in integration/message monitoring.
Additional observations may include:
- Issue occurs after fiscal year change
- Some scheduling agreements process successfully while others fail
- Manual correction deliveries may have been applied
- Issue may only appear in productive systems
Environment
SAP S/4HANA Cloud Public Edition
Reproducing the Issue
- Use a Sales Scheduling Agreement with active EDI integration
- Perform a fiscal year change
- Ensure:
- No goods issue has been posted in the new fiscal year
- Cumulative delivered quantity is reset to 0
- Send an inbound delivery schedule (DELFOR / SOAP)
- (Optional) Create one or more correction deliveries
- Observe that the inbound message fails with a cumulative quantity error
Error
V4015 / V4242
“The current cumulative delivered quantity is smaller than the cumulative received quantity”
Cause
This behavior is standard SAP system logic related to fiscal year change handling of cumulative quantities.
- At the beginning of a new fiscal year:
- The system resets cumulative delivered quantity to 0
- If an inbound delivery schedule implies that quantities have already been received (based on cumulative logic), the system detects:
- Cumulative received quantity > cumulative delivered quantity
- The system blocks processing to prevent inconsistencies
Additional contributing factors:
- Multiple or incorrect correction deliveries can create inconsistent cumulative values
- The first inbound delivery schedule in the new fiscal year must establish a valid baseline
Resolution
Recommended approach:
- Establish a clean baseline in the new fiscal year
- Ensure the first delivery schedule:
- Does not rely on historical cumulative quantities, or
- Is processed after the first goods issue in the new fiscal year
- Ensure the first delivery schedule:
- Avoid multiple resets of cumulative quantities
- Only one consistent baseline should be established
- Repeated correction deliveries can lead to inconsistencies
- Use correction deliveries where necessary
- To align cumulative quantities if inconsistencies already exist
- Can be done manually or via API
- Adjust EDI logic (for high-volume scenarios)
- Ensure the first inbound message in the new fiscal year aligns with SAP cumulative logic
- Prevent unintended carry-over of historical quantities
Important Notes
- This is not a software defect
- Behavior is documented in:
- KBA 922638 – Fiscal year change in scheduling agreements
- No standard functionality exists to perform a mass reset of cumulative quantities in S/4HANA Cloud Public Edition
- Once a valid baseline is established, subsequent inbound messages process normally
