Symptom
- A material with status obsolete or phase out can be assigned to a maintenance order without any error or warning.
- No material status check is performed before adding the material to the work order.
- No error message is displayed on save.
Environment
SAP S/4HANA Cloud Public Edition
Reproducing the Issue
- In the app Manage Product Master Data, set the material’s cross‑plant material status to Obsolete (for example, status “05 - Obsolete”) or Phase‑Out.
- Open the app Change Maintenance Order (or Create/Change Maintenance Order).
- Add the material to the maintenance order and save.
- Observe that no error or warning is raised regarding the material status.
Cause
The Plant Maintenance (PM) business process is not included in the standard material status control scope in the current SAP S/4HANA Cloud Public Edition.
Resolution
- Acknowledge that the current behavior is by design because PM is not covered by material status control.
- If material status validation for PM is required, submit a feature request: KBA 2963059 - How to Submit Feature Requests for SAP S/4HANA Cloud Product.
