3750738 - Excel pricebook upload fails with "wrong format" for date columns

Symptom

  • When uploading an Excel pricebook that includes date columns (for example, contract start and end dates), the import fails.
  • Error message: "Import failed. Please check downloaded file for details".
  • Downloaded error file shows: "Column: ContractEndDate: Wrong format", "Column: ContractStartDate: Wrong format".
  • Upload succeeds only when the dates in the Excel file match the date format configured in the user's profile.

Environment

SAP CPQ

Reproducing the Issue

  1. Prepare an Excel pricebook with date columns such as ContractStartDate and ContractEndDate where the date values use a format that does not match the date format configured in the user's profile.
  2. Navigate to the pricebook import or upload area and start an upload.
  3. Select the prepared Excel file and run the import.
  4. Observe the error message: "Import failed. Please check downloaded file for details".

Cause

  • The date values in the Excel file use a different format than the date format configured in the user's profile.
  • The import validates against the user’s date format and rejects mismatches.
  • This is expected behavior.

Resolution

  1. Check the date format set in the user's profile.
  2. Update all date columns in the Excel file to exactly match the user's profile date format (for example, adjust dd/MM/yyyy vs MM/dd/yyyy).
  3. Save the Excel file and re-upload it.
  4. If multiple users have different date formats, each user must use an Excel file that matches their own profile’s date format.
