3751469 - MAIN_INIT/UCMIG_STATUS_CHK fails with 'Unicode Conversion Preparations not finished' and SPUMG locked (UMG410) during combined upgrade and Unicode conversion

Symptom

  • During a combined CU&UC upgrade of an ABAP system, SUM stops in phase MAIN_INIT/UCMIG_STATUS_CHK with: "The Unicode Conversion Preparations on the startrelease (transaction SPUMG) have not been finished, procedure cannot continue."
  • Transaction SPUMG shows message UMG410: "Transaction SPUMG is currently locked. Finish UMG_FINISH_PREPARATION first."
  • Table UM4STATUS shows STATUS = 0 (initialized) on the start release.
