Symptom

  • Categories are configured to use Role-Based Permissions to allow only the Payroll category, but users with only a self-view role can still see additional categories (for example, Job Data and other categories).
  • In Configure Latest People Profile > Edit Category, the Roles option still appears for at least one category, while other categories show only Everyone and Role-Based Permissions.

Reproducing the Issue

  1. Proxy as a user who is assigned only the self-view role.
  2. Open the user’s People Profile.
  3. Observe that categories beyond the permitted one (for example, Payroll) are still visible.

Cause

  • Missing permission: the user role lacks the “User Search” (Workforce API) permission required for category access checks in the latest people profile.
  • Known product defect in the 1H 2026 release causing protected categories to be shown to users without permission; a code fix is planned for May 12th in Preview environments.

Resolution

  1. Grant the “User Search” (Workforce API) permission to the role assigned to affected users to enable proper category access checks.
  2. Do not change the existing category RBP setup if the absence of “User Search” permission is intentional; proceed to step 3.
  3. If granting “User Search” isn’t possible or the issue persists, note that a product fix is planned. The solution of this issue is currently under investigation. Please follow this KBA for updates.
  4. Optional validation steps already observed to have no effect on this issue: running Refresh RBP Permission Configuration and RBP Self-Healing Tool, and confirming the “Migrate People Profile Category Permissions to RBP” job has completed.
